It is, in fact, for his monumental Ecclesiastical History of the English People that Bede is best remembered. While many of his 60 works are biblical commentaries, he also wrote on natural history, science, poetry, and history. Certainly, Bede's intellectual range went much further than the Bible itself. In truth, the humble monk's studies encompassed a wide range of disciplines, including astronomy, classical languages, medicine, and seemingly everything else his imagination and resources would allow. ![]() I have spent all the remainder of my life in this monastery and devoted myself entirely to the study of Scriptures. 'I was born on the lands of the monastery, he later wrote, and on reaching seven years of age, I was entrusted by my family first to the reverend Abbot Benedict and later to Abbot Ceolfrith for my education. I am sure she did, but it wasn't really carried through in the story.Although there was one particular part of her tales that really stuck with me. ![]() ![]() I felt like the story was dry at times with no particular story line or outcome-and while there was some of Ruth's personal stories and professional development I felt like it was hard to tell if she had really changed. Throughout the book she features some of her reviews, the stories that went into generating the reviews (including her disguises) and some favorite recipes.I really enjoyed her stories, I thought she was a great food critic because she had a way of describing food that could make you visualize it and almost taste it. This book details her journey and tenure at the renowned paper. One of the book I borrowed from my friends for my Hawaiian vacation was called Garlic and Sapphires, it was written by Ruth Reichl who is the current editor at Gourmet magazine and was the NY Times food critic prior to that. ![]() ![]() ![]() OL273141W Page_number_confidence 95.53 Pages 534 Partner Innodata Pdf_module_version 0.0.15 Ppi 360 Rcs_key 24143 Republisher_date 20210804175830 Republisher_operator Republisher_time 335 Scandate 20210803213532 Scanner Scanningcenter cebu Scribe3_search_catalog isbn Scribe3_search_id 9780140145151 Tts_version 4. Her first job was as a librarian in Yakima, Washington, where she met many children who were searching for the same books that she had always hoped to find as a child herself. She moved to California to attend the University of California, Berkeley, and after graduation with a B.A in English in 1938, studied at the School of Librarianship at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she earned a degree in librarianship in 1939. Thereafter, she was a frequent visitor to the library, though she rarely found the books she most wanted to read - those about children like herself. It wasn't until she was in third grade that she found enjoyment from books, when she started reading The Dutch Twins by Lucy Fitch Perkins. She was slow in learning to read, due partly to her dissatisfaction with the books she was required to read and partly to an unpleasant first grade teacher. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Life on mars poetry![]() This formally striking poem is the last to appear in Smith’s collection Life on Mars. Though “The Good Life” may not touch on many of the flashier themes of the book and appears in the fourth and final section of Life on Mars, “My God, It’s Full of Stars” provides a valuable counterpoint for the typical style and subject matter of the poems in Smith’s collection. The poem is split into multiple sections that deal with outer space, science fiction, Smith’s childhood, God, and existential satisfaction. ![]() ![]() Appearing second in the first section of Life on Mars, this longer poem does a great job of touching on many of the major themes and motifs of Smith’s book. ![]() 5/21/2023 0 Comments Dominic by la casey![]() ![]() ![]() Whoever did that should be looking at immediate sacking and criminal charges. I’ve heard stuff that would genuinely make your hair stand on end, but never heard of cops boasting about leaving bacon in a Muslim colleague’s locker. For example, as an anticorruption investigator, I’ve listened to hours of covert recordings of suspect police officers speaking candidly amongst themselves. ![]() I can only relay what I saw in good faith - I only left the MPS five years ago, within scope of the period Casey examines in her report. Even though I was subjected to some awful treatment during my service, it wasn’t due to my gender, sexuality or ethnicity. I’m also acutely aware, as a straight white bloke, I’m less likely to have been a victim. The sexist, racist, homophobic hellscape Casey describes shocks me. Please bear this in mind when I express surprise at some of the behaviour Casey describes. ![]() |
